About this course

Every practitioner should be able to recognise the complications that can follow aesthetic treatment, know which are emergencies, and have a written plan for each. This awareness-level course covers the common and the serious across injectables, skin and energy-based treatments, from bruising and infection to vascular occlusion, anaphylaxis and burns.

It sets out what an emergency kit and protocol should contain, how to escalate, and how to document and learn from an event. It is theory: managing a complication in practice requires practical training and, for prescription-only medicines, appropriate prescriber involvement.

Who it is for: All practitioners performing or assisting with aesthetic treatments.

  • Distinguish an emergency from an expected side effect.
  • Describe the contents of an emergency kit and the protocol for its use.

Where practical competency is required, appropriate supervised practical training and assessment should also be completed.
